Gao Song Inspects Poverty Alleviation in Qumaleb County, Qinghai Province

Recently, Gao Song, a member of the Leading Party Members Group and Deputy CEO of China Energy made a trip to Qumaleb County in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, to inspect the corporation’s assistance to poverty reduction and the protection of the Yellow River headwaters.

During the trip, Gao had in-depth exchanges on targeted measures of poverty reduction through ecological protection with Cai Rangtai, deputy Party chief and head of Yushu. Gao also visited an experimental base for seedlings propagation measuring some 1,000 mu in the plateau region in Yushu.

In Qumarleb, Gao Song visited the county’s ethnic middle school to learn about the school building conditions, brought caring to two poor households and went to see ecological protection on the headwaters of the Yellow River in Guoyang Village, Maduo Township, where Gao also learned about poverty alleviation efforts and challenges ahead.

He said the Leading Party Members Group of China Energy regards poverty reduction as a priority. Acting upon President Xi Jinping’s strategic ideas of poverty reduction and development and the building of ecological civilization, and the guiding principle that ecology is the area where Qinghai’s most important responsibility, and greatest value and potential lie, according to him, China Energy has been placing high attention to poverty eradication through ecological conservation. With visionary goals and sound planning, the corporation has been channeling resources of all sectors into the conservation of the headwaters of the Yellow River toward the win-win outcome of ecological conservation and poverty eradication. Continuous efforts should be made to ensure the access of children from poor households to education. With a forward-looking approach, the standard of school building construction should be properly improved so that teachers and students can work, live and learn in ensured conditions. Targeted measures through medical assistance remain the focus. The corporation will assist in launching training programs for rural doctors, and rooting out altitude and endemic diseases to improve people’s health conditions. Modern technologies should be used to develop industries like vegetables planting in greenhouses. Efforts should be made to help relocated poor households find jobs and improve the production and living standard of herdsmen. Supervision and management on special fund for poverty reduction should be strengthened to ensure efficiency and transparency.

Dong Jinlin, Party chief of Qumaleb County, extended appreciation for China Energy’s strong support and required officials at all levels of the county to enhance coordination with China Energy, assume responsibility and play their roles in protecting the headwaters of the Yellow River, improving the livelihoods of herdsmen and winning the battle against poverty.
