On January 22, Ling Wen, CEO of China Energy Group, attended the 2019 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, during which he received an exclusive interview by China Global Television Network (CGTN).
Ling pointed out during the interview that China’s resources endowments determine coal remains the primary source of energy in the country, so the key to addressing environmental pollution lies in clean utilization of coal. Since the day of its inception, China Energy Group has been committed to the clean utilization of traditional energy and the large-scale usage of renewable energy. The ultra-low emission coal-fired power generation technology it developed can enable the emission of coal-fueled generating units to be even lower than that of natural gas-fueled generating units. By the end of 2018, generating units with ultra-low emission had accounted for 91 percent of all generating units of the energy group. Compared to five years ago, the installed capacity of the group’s coal-fired power generators has increased at breakneck speed, but their total emissions have constantly dropped.
When talking about climate change, Ling pointed out that curbing the problem requires joint efforts of all countries in the world. The Chinese government has been devoted to performing its commitments to the Paris Agreement. China Energy Group is willing to join hands with companies and research institutions from around the world to support the government to achieve its emission reduction goals by the means such as technological innovation. In terms of renewable energy research and development, China Energy upholds the concept of technological innovation. On one hand, it is actively accelerating the advancement of wind power technologies, and on the other hand, it has taken concrete action to push forward the R&D and application of the copper-indium-gallium-selenium thin-film solar panel power generation technology. Compared to traditional silicon-based technology, this power generation technology is not only raw material-saving and highly efficient, but also can work despite weak sunlight and be integrated with architecture, which is worth disseminating.
Ling stressed that China Energy will continue to take an active part in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and carry out deeper and wider international cooperation by using its advanced clean energy technology and integration advantage.
