Ling Wen Speaks at 2019 ‘Caijing’ Sustainable Development Finance Summit

On January 9, Ling Wen, CEO of China Energy Investment Corporation and chairman of China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd., attended the 2019 Sustainable Development Finance Summit held in Beijing by Caijing magazine.

At Panel III themed on “Do Good and Do Well: Practicing Sustainable Development,” Ling joined three other guests on a dialogue with the moderator, illustrating China Energy’s endeavors in fulfilling its social responsibility while promoting sustainable development in terms of ensuring national energy security, securing employees life safety, environmental protection, energy saving and emission reduction, dividends for investors and corporate social responsibility.

Since China Shenhua was listed, Ling noted, it has been committed to mining and using coal in an efficient, safe and eco-friendly way. On the premise that national energy security is guaranteed and economic growth is maintained, its safety accident rate has dropped to the lowest in the country. With great importance attached to environmental protection, the green coverage rate of its coal mines has kept increasing, and many power plants have achieved ultra-low emissions. Additionally, the company has strictly abided by the regulations on information disclosure of listed companies and strengthened management to fulfill their responsibilities to investors. Since China Energy Charity Foundation was founded, it has provided treatment for a total of 27,199 children with leukemia and congenital heart disease. Ling also expressed hope that the coal sector would be better understood and receive more attention from the society at large.

At 2019 “Caijing” Sustainable Development Finance Summit & Evergreen Award Ceremony, China Shenhua won Sustainable Development Contribution Award for its outstanding performance in 2018. The Evergreen Award is selected and released by Caijing, a respected financial and economics magazine, with research support from China Alliance of Social Value Investment. Adopting a strict assessment system and approaches, the appraisal panel provides evaluation of the institutions and companies based on their comprehensive contributions to economic and social development as well as environmental conservation over the past year.
