Dadu River Jinchuan Hydropower Construction Co. Empowers Species Protection with Simulated Ecological Technology

Dadu River Jinchuan Hydropower Construction Co., Ltd. completed the simulated fishway design plan for the Jinchuan hydropower station on February 21, based on key technical breakthroughs it made in simulated fishway construction. This marked a new progress in the field and created a favorable condition for aquatic species protection in the area.

To promote the conservation of aquatic species resources and maintain ecological balance of the Dadu River, the company launched the research project of simulated fishway core technologies in 2019. It conducted review of fish species passing the hydropower station and supplementary studies on their swimming ability, with focus on phototaxis research, migration route observation, and galvanotaxis research of those fish species. The purpose is to protect the original living environment of aquatic species endemic to the Dadu River, such as Schizothorax prenanti, Schizothorax waltoni, Schizopygopsis malacanthus chengi, Euchiloglanis davidi, and Euchiloglanis kishinouyei.

Through integrating scientific research and environmental protection, the Jinchuan hydropower station has made great efforts to strengthen fish enhancement and releasing and advance the research of simulated ecological fishways. Based on its research results, the company made major breakthroughs in simulated fishway core technologies, and built simulated nature-like ecological facilities including natural and artificial fishways, totaling 5.05 kilometers in length. Such facilities meet the standards of natural watercourses and innovate the fishway design philosophy, pushing forward species protection along the Dadu River.
