China Energy Convenes Expert Appraisal Meeting on Its 2021 First Group of Research Projects

On January 16, China Energy convened its first expert meeting on the evaluation for research projects to be launched in 2021. Liu Guoyue, CEO of China Energy, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. A total of 86 experts, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and experts from relevant government departments, industry associations, universities, research institutions and centrally administered enterprises, appeared at the event.

In his speech, Liu reviewed China Energy’s performances in production and operation and its achievements in technological innovation in 2020. He said that the corporation achieved satisfying results in all aspects of production and operation last year, with its technological innovation supporting system further improved and its innovation capability significantly enhanced. China Energy has accomplished a series of research projects launched by the state and itself and made great achievements that strongly support the corporation’s high-quality development.

Liu pointed out that as it is working to reach carbon emissions peak and carbon neutrality as scheduled, China’s energy structure faces major adjustments. It has been an inevitable trend to accelerate the development of new energy and renewable energy and achieve green development and clean, efficient utilization of fossil energy. In 2021, China Energy will continue adhering to innovation-driven development by stepping up the implementation of its technological innovation and development strategies and key research programs during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, promoting intelligent energy planning with focus on clean utilization of fossil energy and large-scale use of clean energy, increasing investments in basic theories research and frontier technological innovation, strengthening scientific and technologic research, deepening the reform of science and technology development mechanisms, and reinforcing the creation, protection and utilization of intellectual properties.

Liu sincerely invited academicians and experts to mastermind plans for the implementation of China Energy’s 10 key technological research projects and 10 “soft subject” research projects in 2021.

The first group of research projects for 2021 was launched in September 2020. A total of 217 scientific and technological projects and technical standards projects launched by China Energy and its subsidiaries have passed preliminary examination and entered the stage of expert evaluation. At the meeting, 24 CAE academicians led 12 expert groups to evaluate relevant research projects on coal mining, coal-fired power, coal-to-liquid (CTL) chemicals, transportation, new energy, information technology, and soft subjects. For the need of epidemic prevention and control, the meeting was held in a form integrating on-site reporting and teleconference.
