China Energy Strives to Achieve High-quality Poverty Alleviation

China Energy Investment Corporation has been responsible for providing assistance to nine poverty-stricken counties since August 2018. As of April 2020, seven of these counties including Youyu in Shanxi, Gangcha in Qinghai, Nyainrong in Tibet, Ningcheng in Inner Mongolia, and Mizhi in Shaanxi had been successfully lifted out of poverty, while the other two, Butuo and Puge in Sichuan, have both entered a critical stage of their efforts to shake off poverty.

In 2019, China Energy allocated poverty-alleviation funds of 226 million yuan to provide financial assistance to poor students and excellent teachers and build 16 schools in the nine counties, carry out seven industrial assistance projects which helped 3,956 impoverished households come out of poverty, ban grazing on 150,000 mu (10,000 hectares) of pastures in the core area of the Yellow River source and establish livestock breeding cooperatives elsewhere, and provide training on e-commerce, ethnic handicrafts, vocational skills, teaching, and rural medical practice, which benefited 2,019 trainees. Throughout the year, the company purchased 70.02 million yuan of agricultural products and helped sell 6.86 million yuan of produce from poverty-stricken areas. In the assessment of poverty alleviation work, China Energy received the highest ranking for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019. It has been honored among 50 Typical Cases of Targeted Poverty Alleviation by Chinese Enterprises.

Butuo and Puge, both among the 52 counties listed by the State Council as impoverished areas as work priorities to achieve the goal of poverty eradication nationwide, are located in areas with the deepest levels of poverty and the greatest difficulty in poverty eradication. Since it joined the pairing assistance program in 2013, China Energy has invested 216 million yuan as relief fund and launched 55 poverty alleviation projects. At present, the group company is making every effort to overcome the adverse impact of the epidemic to promote the construction of primary school buildings, village roads, housing, drinking water facilities and other related projects, help market local high-quality agricultural and livestock products to other parts of the country, and advance poverty alleviation through planting, photovoltaic and other industrial efforts according to local conditions, aiming to lift the two counties out of poverty as scheduled.
