World’s First New-Type X-Fire Rail Wheel Detector Passes Trial Testing

Testing of a new-type X-Fire rail wheel detector was recently completed at Shuohuang Railway Development Co., Ltd. under China Energy Investment Corporation. The flaw detector is the first of its kind in the world and the latest for 75kg/m rails.

The new wheel detector was jointly developed by Shuohuang Railway Development Co., Ltd. and the United States-based Sperry to solve the problem of low flaw detection sensitivity for 75kg/m rails and vulnerability of the previous X-Fire wheel detector. During the testing, a dynamic comparison between the new and previous detectors was carried out along the 810-kilometer railway between Suning North Railway Station in Hebei Province and Shenchi South Railway Station in Shanxi Province. Professional technicians in flaw detection aboard the train completed data analysis at the first time, laying a solid foundation for further improvement of the new device.

The testing verifies the technical feasibility and reliability of the application of the new X-Fire wheel detector in practice, showing that the device performs better in detecting track flaws. It also played an active role in advancing the detector’s capacity and improving the stability of rail equipment, thus guaranteeing safe journeys.
