GD Power’s Case Wins Best Practice Award for Central SOE Brand Building

The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) on May 10 released the “2020 Top 100 Brand Building Cases and 100 Best Brand Stories of Central SOEs.” The “Polishing the ‘Belt and Road’ Business Card for Central SOEs with a ‘Symbiosis Model’” of the Beijing-based GD Power Development Co., Ltd. under China Energy was awarded as the only case with “international operation” among the 58 selected SOE brand building cases. GD Power’s case provides insight into the values and methodology of international operation of the group company in terms of case background, main methods and case effect.

Since China Energy launched energy cooperation with Indonesia in April 2007, with the aim to build a world-class energy conglomerate with global competitiveness, it has incorporated international brand building into its international expansion strategy, focusing on solving problems and seeking sustainable development. Over the past 14 years, the company has invested a total of US$3.12 billion in Indonesia to construct and operate three coal-fired power projects with an installed capacity of 3.1 million kilowatts, accounting for 8 percent of Indonesia’s total. As the Chinese power company with the largest investment and largest installed capacity in Indonesia, China Energy has fostered a “symbiosis” concept, achieved a win-win situation, explored a path of international operation that can be learned from, replicated and promoted, and polished the “Belt and Road” business card for central SOEs.
