China Energy Chairman Wang Xiangxi Meets with ThyssenKrupp Chair-Mgmt Board/CEO Martina Merz

Wang Xiangxi, chairman of China Energy Investment Corporation, met with Martina Merz, Chair-Mgmt Board/CEO of ThyssenKrupp Group, on March 18 in Beijing via video link. The two sides conducted in-depth talks on deepening cooperation.

Wang briefly introduced the basic information of China Energy. He said that the business scope of China Energy covers the entire industrial chain, ranging from coal to electricity, transportation, and chemicals, and the corporation is committed to making contributions to the realization of the goals of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 put forward by President Xi Jinping, vigorously promoting clean, renewable energy, and advancing CCS/CCUS pilot research projects. Hydrogen energy is a key field in China Energy’s endeavor to align the development of traditional fossil fuels and renewable energy. As the director unit of China National Alliance of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell, China Energy is accelerating its pace to build a green hydrogen energy supply chain and a hydrogen alliance service chain. In recent years, China Energy and ThyssenKrupp have carried out communication and cooperation in fields like hydrogen energy, technology, and equipment, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration. Wang expressed hope that the two sides will give full play to their respective technical advantages, strengthen dialogue and communication and expand the space of cooperation in areas like hydrogen production equipment, wind and photovoltaic power, and green energy, so as to set a new model for cooperative development between Chinese and German companies.

Merz introduced the history and transformation of ThyssenKrupp. She noted that as a diversified industrial conglomerate, ThyssenKrupp involves a variety of businesses including iron & steel, material service, and industrial parts. At present, ThyssenKrupp is undergoing the largest-ever transformation in its history, which will make its businesses greener and more sustainable, so as to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality. She lauded the fruitful achievements China Energy has made in green development, and expressed hope that the two sides can strengthen comprehensive communication and cooperation in the hydrogen energy industrial chain based on previous healthy collaboration, and continue pushing their partnership forward.
