World’s Most Powerful Electric Locomotive Co-developed by China Energy and CRRC Rolls Off the Production Line

On July 29, the Shen-24, the world’s most powerful electric locomotive co-developed by China Energy and CRRC Corp Ltd., rolled off the production line at CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. Wang Xiangxi, chairman of China Energy, Chen Fei, vice governor of Hunan Province, and Liu Hualong, chairman of CRRC, attended the inaugural ceremony and visited the locomotive. Wang and Liu also held in-depth talks to strengthen cooperation.

Wang expressed his congratulation for the innovative achievement made by CRRC. He pointed out that the inauguration of the Shen-24 electric locomotive marked a milestone event in cooperation between the two corporations in technological innovation. He hopes both parties will give full use to their respective advantages and deepen cooperation in fields like freight locomotives, new energy, mining machinery, and intelligent manufacturing. Liu extended his gratitude for China Energy for the long-term strong support it has offered to CRRC. He also expressed the hope that both corporations will further complement each other on the basis of existing cooperation, deepen cooperation in railway business, expand cooperation in areas like wind power, hydrogen energy, and mining machinery, promote the application of intelligent technologies, and lead the industry in terms of technological progress and management innovation.

The Shen-24 electric locomotive features the 24-axle technology and design proposed by the Baotou-Shenmu Railway under China Energy, which joined hands with CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. to conduct relevant technological research and determine production plans. The locomotive is characterized by flexible marshaling, smart driving, high safety, and eco-friendliness. It has a maximum power of 28,800 KW, a peak traction of 2,280 KN, and a length of 106 meters, all ranking first in the world. Moreover, it also has the most axles compared with its peers around the world. The locomotive has not only set a new world record for rail transportation in terms of traction and power, but also filled the blank in the development of 24-axle high-power AC transmission electric locomotives around the globe.
