Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power Management Team Titled as a 2021 ‘Role Model of Central SOEs’

The Party committee of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) unveiled the 2021 list of the first batch of “Role Models of Central SOEs” on June 24. The management team of Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power (Pty) Ltd. of China Energy and the Long March-5 rocket research team of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, as well as three individuals including Yang Zongli from China Three Gorges Corporation, Xiao Mingqing from China Railway Construction Co., Ltd., and Qiu Jun from China National Chemical Engineering Group Co., Ltd., were awarded the title of “Role Models of Central SOEs.”

The management team of Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power (Pty) Ltd. arrived in South Africa, the Rainbow Nation, in 2009. Adhering to the principles of “Extensive Consultation, Shared Benefits and Joint Contribution,” it cooperated with the local government, partners, and residents to develop green energy. After eight years of preparation and construction, it has completed South Africa’s largest wind power project with Chinese-made 1.5MW wind power generation units and its experience in high-standard wind power engineering. The project is also the first wind power project invested, constructed and operated by a Chinese enterprise in South Africa. The project provides clean electricity of about 760 million kWh to meet the demand of 300,000 households, which effectively relieves power shortage in the region. Moreover, the wind power project can save standard coal of 215,800 tons and reduce CO2 emissions by 619,900 tons, empowering South Africa’s clean and low-carbon development.

Furthermore, the project has set up a special community fund and taken targeted measures to help the development of local communities, such as providing free medical services for local children, women and elders and launching an education assistance campaign. After the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa last year, the management team voluntarily donated money and supplies to help the local government carry out epidemic prevention and control. It provided the company’s medical care bus for the local government for free to facilitate COVID-19 detection and screening, which had offered free medical services for nearly 50,000 people by mid-June 2021. The management team of Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power (Pty) Ltd. has explored a feasible way to implement the Belt and Road Initiative, and supported regional and global environmental protection with concrete actions. By doing so, it has contributed Chinese wisdom and strength to global ecological progress and built a bridge of friendship between China and South Africa.
