Zhungeer Energy Achieves Satisfying Results in High-quality Poverty Alleviation

With per capita annual income increasing from 2,800 yuan in 2011 to 6,200 yuan in 2020, Yong’an Town in Tuquan County, Hinggan League, once known as the poorest area in northern China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has successfully shaken off poverty.

Zhungeer Energy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation, began to provide paired assistance for Yong’an Town in 2011 by launching an edible fungus cultivation project in the town’s Yongfa Village and a black fungus cultivation project in Yong’an Village. After lifting Yongfa Village out of poverty, in 2018, Zhungeer Energy sent a poverty alleviation worker to Yong’an Village to coordinate the village’s black fungus cultivation and sales. After three years of efforts, Yong’an Village has completed the black fungus cultivation project alongside a meat goat raising cooperative project.

Over the years, Zhungeer Energy has totally invested 7 million yuan in targeted poverty alleviation in the two villages, helping local villagers build 350 edible fungus greenhouses and achieve mass production of the fungus, which lifted 247 poor households out of poverty.

During the campaign to “mobilize 100 enterprises to help 100 poverty-stricken villages” through targeted poverty alleviation measures, Zhungeer Energy adopted various strategies and invested nearly 9.8 million yuan to help 13 villages in Jungar Banner develop the collective economy based on their local conditions and launch 31 poverty alleviation projects regarding planting, animal husbandry and industrial development. The goal of ensuring every village has its industrial projects and every household increases their income has been achieved. At the same, the company invested 12.32 million yuan to support poverty alleviation through industrial development and help those poverty-stricken areas build logistics distribution centers and industrial parks to increase their self-development capacity and accelerate the growth of the local economy.

Moreover, the company adopts the strategy of promoting poverty relief efforts through consumption. Through such channels as “Public Welfare of China” and “Huicai Mall,” handmade noodles from Wubu County, black fungus from Hinggan League, and mutton and almond juice from Jungar Banner have been channeled to the tables of Zhungeer employees. So far, the company has invested 53.18 million yuan in pro-consumption poverty alleviation, of which 43.51 million yuan were spent to purchase local products from poverty-stricken areas.

In recent years, the company has attached great importance to people’s livelihoods such as employment, education and transportation, and showed consistent enthusiasm towards public welfare. As an active participant in the Charity Donation Day launched by the Red Cross Society of China, the company has donated nearly 1.46 million yuan in total. The company also donated more than 2.45 million yuan during the National Poverty Alleviation Day campaign.

By constantly increasing investments, improving work mechanisms and upholding the strategy of targeted poverty alleviation, Zhungeer Energy has made remarkable achievements in poverty relief. In 2015, the company was honored as a “charity model in poverty alleviation” by the Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Inner Mongolia Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. In 2018, it was awarded as a “role model in poverty alleviation” by Jungar Banner. In 2020, it was cited as an excellent enterprises in the campaign to “mobilize 100 enterprises to help 100 poverty-stricken villages” through targeted poverty alleviation measures.
