Dragged by an HXD2 electric locomotive, Train 51537 crept out of Dongsheng Railway Station on July 2. This was the first time that this type of electric locomotive began test run on the Boashen Railway under China Energy, heralding the beginning of the multi-type locomotive operation system.

Since 2020, with the continuous increase in transport demand for the south line of the Baosheng Railway, factors like slow turnover of heavy-haul locomotives and the long time needed for routing have become bottlenecks hindering the further improvement of the line’s transport capacity. The HXD2 electric locomotive was designed to solve problems such as slow turnover of 10,000-ton locomotive units, inefficient operations of locomotives, and the anxiety of locomotive conductors caused by staying in a secluded space for a long time. It can effectively enhance the locomotive’s traction force and maintenance efficiency, improve conductors’ working environment, and reduce the workload of drivers, stewards and ground crew, thus ensuring a safe test run.
The successful test run of the HXD2 electric locomotive will substantially enhance the operating efficiency of the transport artery of China Energy, meet the strategic needs for heavy-haul railway transport that is people-centered and environmentally friendly, and lay a solid foundation for achieving multi-type locomotive operation.
