New WCA CEO Inaugurated at Sanhe Power Plant of Guohua Power

Michelle Manook, new Chief Executive Officer of the World Coal Association (WCA), was inaugurated at the Sanhe Power Plant of Guohua Power on July 18. Li Dong, member of the Leading Party Members Group, deputy CEO of China Energy, and vice president of the WCA, attended the press conference and delivered a speech.

Li briefed the participants on overall operation of China Energy and noted that China Energy had been committed to pollution-free utilization of coal energy and the research and development of low-carbon energy. Sanhe Power Plant was the first coal-fired power station in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to achieve near zero carbon dioxide emissions, whose emissions were far lower than gas-powered plants in Europe, Li Dong said. Then, he announced the inauguration of Michelle Manook as the new CEO of WCA.

The WCA had been committed to playing a constructive and progressive role in meeting the world’s challenges, said Michelle Manook in her inauguration speech. As the most widely available, reliable and cost-effective fossil fuel resources, coal played a significant role in sustainable development through its use in industrial process, she said. One of the current priorities of the WCA is to support the development and arrangement of low-emission technological solutions, she said, adding China had shown the world innovative approaches to these problems, which can be spread across the globe.
