China Energy-aided Pumping Wells Put into Use in Yikewulan Township

Recently, the China Energy-aided project of constructing 12 motor-pumped wells in Yikewulan Township of Gangcha County, Qinghai Province, was completed and passed the project acceptance and water quality test.

Clean drinking water is now available at the doorstep of local herders.

Due to underdeveloped infrastructure, residents of Yikewulan Township traditionally largely relied on springs or surface rivers for water, which is largely subject to impacts from various factors such as the season. Ensuring security and safety of drinking water for local people as well as sufficient water for production became a mounting problem that needed to be addressed urgently.

To help solve the problem and provide local residents access to safe drinking water, China Energy invested 1 million yuan to build 12 pumping wells in six poverty-stricken villages of the township.

The beginning of construction coincided with the outbreak of COVID-19. In order to allow the herders to drink safe, clean water at the earliest date possible, the project builders overcame various difficulties in staff organization and material supply shortages and worked day and night for several days on the snowy plateau that was beginning to thaw. Eventually, all the 12 wells, totaling more than 1,250 meters in depth, were completed and passed water quality test, which will benefit 40-plus people of 12 households as well as 960 heads of cattle and 3,420 sheep.
