Baihetan hydropower plant, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that it has been officially approved on June 25 by the Ministry of Water Resources to be included in the joint scheduling of hydropower cluster in the Yangtze River basin for 2021, a total of seven dams owned by CTG included in the joint scheduling.
A total of 47 reservoirs have been included in the joint scheduling of the Yangtze River basin for 2021 with a total regulated storage capacity of 106.6 billion cubic meters and a total flood control capacity of 69.5 billion cubic meters.
The seven reservoirs of CTG included in the joint scheduling have a regulated storage capacity of 47.3 billion cubic meters and a flood control capacity of 38.6 billion cubic meters, accounting for 44% and 56% of the total respectively.
Baihetan hydropower plant, the world's largest hydropower plant under construction, put its first power units into operation on June 28, 2021. As more of CTG's cascade reservoirs are completed and put into operation while the hydraulic complex operation and management system of the basin are improved. CTG's cascade reservoirs are set to play a more prominent role in the joint scheduling of hydropower projects in the Yangtze River basin.
The other six CTG-owned dams included in the joint scheduling of Yangtze River are Wudongde, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, Shuibuya and Geheyan hydropower stations.
