On December 5, the first unit of the S？o Manoel hydropower project in Brazil was connected to the grid and started power generation, five months ahead of schedule. The S？o Manoel project is located at the border of the state of Pará and the state of Mato Grosso in northern Brazil and is built on the Teles Pires river, a secondary tributary of the Amazon River. The total installed capacity of the project is 700 MW. It is jointly held by China Three Gorges Brasil, EDP Brasil and Eletrobras Furnas and broke ground in August 2014. After more than three years of construction, the reservoir start-ed to store water since October 2017 and finished the first phase of water storage on November 1.
