China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) has made significant progress at Anhui Wuhu Sewage Treatment Plant, its first project of the Yangtze River Protection and Clean Energy initiative, laying the first batch of modules at the distributed photovoltaic (PV) project at the plant on August 30.
The Wuhu PV plant will be CTG’s largest distributed PV project in terms of installed capacity. Yangtze Ecology and Environment Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CTG, is making use of the space above the ponds of seven wastewater treatment plants and the rooftops of its buildings in Wuhu City to develop distributed PV systems, with a planned installed capacity of 22.868 MW during peak periods. The project will adopt an operating mode whereby the electricity generated by the PV project will supply to power the sewage plants with the surplus electricity sold to the grid.
Upon completion, the project will annually provide over 20 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity to the Yangtze River Protection initiative, saving approximately 6,500 tons of standard coal and 85,300 tons of water. It will also reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and soot by 15,900, 165.50, and 142.2 tons respectively.
