CTG-owned Changlongshan pumped storage power station commissions first power unit

Changlongshan pumped storage power station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), has put its first power unit into operation on June 25 after five years of construction, becoming a new power bank and regulator to the East China Grid.

The power station is located in Anji County, Zhejiang Province, the place where Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".

Pumped storage power plant, an important component of the new energy-dominated power system, is the main regulating power for the grid, facilitating safe delivery and timely consumption of wind and solar power as well as other new energies while improving the operating conditions of the grid.

Changlongshan is a daily regulating pumped storage power station with a high waterhead, high rotation speed and huge capacity. Located in the center of East China Grid, the plant has six 350 MW reversible pumped hydraulic generators with a total installed capacity of 2,100 MW that could generate an average of 2.435 billion kilowatt-hours electricity annually.

Once fully operational, the clean energy generated by the power station annually is equivalent to a reduction of 210,000 tons in coal, slashing emissions of 420,000 tons of carbon dioxide and 2,800 tons of sulfur dioxide.

The main body of Changlongshan pumped storage power station, which began construction in February 2017, consists of the upper reservoir, the lower reservoir, the water transmission system, the main plant and a 500 KV ground switch station. It is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of July, 2022.
