CTG’s first offshore wind farm in Guangzhou connects to grid-1

China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG)’s first offshore wind farm in Guangdong province started operation on November 29 as its first batch of generator units was officially connected to grid for power generation, making a milestone for the power giant in its wind farm business in the province.

The project is phase one of CTG’s million-kilowatt offshore wind power plant in Yangjiang, Guangdong province. Yangjiang Phase I offshore wind farm lies about 28 kilometers offshore and covers 50 square kilometers with 55 sets of 5,500 kilowatt wind power generators and a total installed capacity of more than 300,000 KW.

The Yangjiang project is expected to reach its designed capacity by the end of next year, generating 0.8 TWh electricity to the grid annually by then, or equivalent of the power demands of around 500,000 households.

It is expected to save about 250,000 tons of standard coal and reduce around 650,000 tons in carbon dioxide emissions every year compared with a coal-fired power plant of the same size, equivalent to planting forests covering an area of 1,800 hectares.

Experts said the project plays a significant role in energy conservation, emission reduction as well as economic and social development.
