CTG acquires breeding technology for artificial reproduction of Schizothoraxprenanti-1

Wudongde Breeding and Releasing Station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully bred artificial fish, named Schizothorax prenanti, a cold-water fish species with great economic importance in aquaculture in Western China, in late February, making it the first batch of its kind in 2020.

Researchers from the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute started to induce spawning for more than ten groups of Schizothoraxprenanti on February 23, and three groups of parent fishes successfully spawned over 70,000 fertilized eggs on February 25.

Commonly known as “Yayu” in China and mainly distributed in the water systems of Jinsha River, Minjiang River and Dadu River, it is one of the fish species protected by the Wudongde Breeding and Releasing Station.

All of Schizothoraxprenanti for artificial reproduction this time were independently bred at the station. This is the third consecutive year that the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute has achieved artificial reproduction of the fish, marking that CTG has acquired the full set of technologies from breeding parent fishes to subsequent reproduction.
