CTG hoists fifth rotor at its Wudongde hydropower plant

China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) continues to advance the construction of its Wudongde hydropower plant, successfully completing the hoisting of the fifth rotor for the No. 4 power unit on the left bank on July 26.

The fifth rotor of the plant consists of a core, fan frame, erection bar, magnetic yoke and pole. With a maximum diameter of 17.49 meters, a height of 4.06 meters and a weight of over 2,100 tons, it is one of the heaviest and most important components of the plant’s turbine generator.

Wudongde hydropower plant is a key national project, which will have an installed capacity of over 10 million KW and a total investment of over RMB 100 billion. It is a major component of China’s West-to-East Power Transmission Project and a pillar project in the nation’s push to restructure the energy industry and build a low-carbon and efficient energy system. The first group of units of the plant, which is on track to become fully operational next July, was commissioned at the end of June.
