CTG Began 2018 Cascade Reservoirs Eco-operation Tests

Eco-operation tests kicked off at the Xiluodu Dam on January 15, with a proposed timeframe to last until May 10. We improved from the single-layer stop-log gate structure of last year, and adopted a dual-layer arrangement which opens and closes in phases to understand how multi-level water intake influences the discharge temperature at the Xiluodu Dam. This was done in order to create favorable hydrological and hydraulic conditions necessary for fish reproduction, especially for the hatchability of demersal and adhesive eggs (Acipenser dabryanus, Myxocyprinus asiaticus, etc.), through ecological operations. Eco-operation tests at the Xiangjiaba Dam and Three Gorges Dam have been planned to take place from mid-May to late-June, depending on rainfall, water temperature and other conditions.
