CTG puts all 96 power units into operation for the first time

China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) announced that its six cascade hydropower plants along the main stream of the Yangtze River put all of their 96 power units into operation on July 7 as part of its efforts to meet the peak demand of the grid in the summer, the first time that all the power generators were in operation simultaneously.

The total power generated from the cascade hydropower plants, which includes Three Gorges, Gezhouba, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Wudongde and Baihetan at the day reached 52 GW.

As the heat wave persists in many parts of the country, CTG's cascade power stations are running at full load, supplying clean energy to East China, Central China and South China to meet the peak electricity demand during the summer season.

The total power generated by the cascade power stations from June 11 to July 6 reached 17.85 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh), securing electricity supply in Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces.

With all the power units of Wudongde hydropower plant and the first units of Baihetan hydropower in operation, CTG now has six hydropower plants on the main stream of Yangtze River, with a total of 96 power units and a total installed capacity of 57.695 GW as of June, up from 45.495 GW at the beginning of last year.

CTG is further expanding its green footprint, empowering the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Zone, and contributing to the national goal of "reaching carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality".
