The Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba hydropower plants, built and owned by China Three Gorges Corp (CTG), were included in 2019’s prodigious list of the top nine national soil and water conservation eco-projects following a thorough evaluation by China’s Ministry of Water Resources.
It is the second time CTG has won the accolade, which is awarded by China’s Ministry of Water Resources, after its Three Gorges project was honored in 2012.
The Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba hydropower plants are the third and fourth plants of four cascade hydropower plants on the downstream section of the Jinsha River. The Xiluodu hydropower plant, the world’s third largest working hydropower plant, began construction in December 2005 and was fully operational by June 2014.
It won the Outstanding Project of the Year Award by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), dubbed the Nobel Prize of international engineering, in September 2016.
The Xiangjiaba hydropower plant, the world's sixth largest hydropower project on operation, began construction in November 2006 and was fully operational by July 2014.
