Under the No. 14 order of the Yangtze River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters in 2018, the Three Gorges Reservoir gradually reduced the outflow from May 26, a change from ecological operation to normal falling operation. It marks the successful completion of the first ecological operation test of Three Gorges Reservoir in 2018.
The water-rising period lasts for 6 consecutive days during this test. The average outflow was controlled at the rate of 14,000 m3/s from May 19; increased by 1,100 m3/s a day from May 20- May 23; reached 18,400 m3/s on May 23; further increased to 22,000 m3/s following the instruction by the Yangtze River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on May 24 and controlled at 24,000 m3/s on May 25.
During the ecological operation period, monitoring activities for the early-stage fish situation, breeding population as well as hydrological and environmental factors were carried out at four sections, namely Yidu, Zhijiang, Shashi and Jianli. The effect of the ecological operation will be timely evaluated through the analysis of data collected.
