China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) announced that it has completed the installation and testing of the hoister for its fixed fish collection station located at the downstream of Baihetan dam on March 31, indicating the facility is ready for initial operation.
The facility, which took four months to build since last November, is part of Baihetan dam’s aquatic ecological conservation efforts.
The project team has built a 60-meter high slope, placed 18,000 cubic meters of concrete, manufactured and installed 220 tons of metal structures, and constructed 630 square meters of housing to carve this eco-conservation facility out of the cliff.
The Baihetan fish collection station serves a wide array of functions such as fish collection, sorting, raising, transiting and research. It is committed to protecting fish species that lay pelagic eggs such as coreius guichenoti, leptobotia elongata and Jinshaia sinensis and therefore is of great significance to promoting the genetic exchange of fish species around the dam.
The new facility, along with the fish collection facility at the tailrace tunnel that is also ready for commissioning, forms a complete fish collection system for Baihetan dam.
