CTG announced that the first GW level wind farm in China, the Shapa offshore wind farm, has gone into full operation in Yangjiang on December 25, adding another source of clean energy to power the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Located in the southern sea of Shapa Town, the project is funded and built by China Three Gorges Renewables (Group) Co., the alternative energy arm of CTG. With a total installed capacity of 1.7 million kilowatts, the wind farm has 269 offshore turbines and 3 offshore booster stations. The wind farm can generate about 4.7 billion kWh of clean electricity per year, enough to meet the needs of about 2 million households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 4 million tons per year.
"The Yangjiang project can deliver high-quality power to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, contributing to the region's high-quality development. I also hope that the project can play a leading role in the offshore wind power field and accumulate some valuable experience for other projects," Du Xiangwan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said in an interview.
