Wudongde hydropower station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that it has completed installation of the turbine generator rotor for the first 850,000-kW hydro-generator unit in the underground powerhouse located on the left bank on December 18, a major milestone for the world’s seventh largest hydropower dam.
This is the second unit that has completed rotor installation after Unit #7 on the right bank hoisted the same component into the pit on December 16, marking that the construction of the Wudongde hydropower station is entering the assembly phase and the project is one step closer to meet the operation target by 2020.
As one of the heaviest components of the hydro-generator unit at the Wudongde hydropower station, each generator rotor weighs 2,100 tons with a maximum diameter of 17.77m and a height of 3.57m.
Wudongde hydropower station will house six units of 850,000-kW hydro-generator on each side of the bank with a combined installed capacity of 10.2 million kilowatts, which makes it the world’s seventh largest hydropower dam. The first batch of its units is scheduled to be officially put into operation in July 2020 before the project is fully operational in 2021.
