Nearly Ten Billion Cubic Meters of Water Supplied to the Lower Reaches of Yangtze River by Three Gorges Reservoir from Last Winter to This Spring

As of March 6, the water level of Three Gorges Reservoir has reduced to 164.70 meters. From November 2017 till now, it has supplied nearly 10 billion cubic meters of water to the lower reaches of Yangtze River.

Recently, average daily inflow rate of the Three Gorges Reservoir is 4,800 m3 per second, but the outflow rate reaches 7,300 m3 per second, with the replenishment intensity exceeding 50%. With a falling reservoir water level, Three Gorges Cascade Dispatch & Communication Center has successively increased power supply in the Jinsha River- Three Gorges Cascade Complex, supported power grid to resist coldness, and eased the tension of power supply in this field. Through reasonable control of discharge flow, the water level of the middle and lower reaches of mainstream has been increased to meet the shipping requirement in the lower reaches. 

In 2017, China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd (a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation) has carried out scientific operations of the four cascade hydropower plants along the mainstream of Yangtze River, namely, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba. Water Operation was initiated in dry season to increase outbound discharge to replenish water in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. The annual replenishment reached 31.06 billion cubic meters, satisfying the demand for household and production water in the downstream.
