CTG-built massive floating solar power plant starts construction in Fuyang

The world's largest floating photovoltaic power plant, funded and built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), commenced construction in Fuyang City, Anhui Province on the morning of October 22. Covering the largest water surface in areas formed from incidences of coal mining subsidence, the project is a large-scale wind and solar power project in the Yangtze River Delta, part of CTG's 1.2 million kilowatts wind and solar power project in the south of Fuyang.

CTG, the largest clean energy group in China, regards Anhui as one of the key regions for the development of its clean energy business. A 150,000-kilowatt floating photovoltaic power project in Huainan, Anhui, also funded and constructed by the group, was put into operation on December 10, 2017, making it the world's largest floating solar power station then. The construction of the Fuyang project will utilize the water surface in areas formed from incidences of coal mining subsidence. It adopts a model of combining photovoltaics with fishing and farming while managing coal mining subsidence areas, serving as a role model for comprehensive management of the ecosystem of resource-dependent cities.

With an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts, the project will build a photovoltaic power station, a wind farm and a supporting electrochemical energy storage station, offering a function of peak load regulation for the grid. Once completed, it is expected to save about 630,000 tons of standard coal each year, reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide by about 5,400 tons, 4,700 tons and 1.66 million tons respectively, which is equivalent to planting about 6,100 hectares of broad-leaf forest.
