Yangtze River cascade reservoirs stand ready for flooding season

This year, Yangtze River basin is expected to have more rainfalls in the flood season, while the upstream will stay at a normal range compared with the same period historically and an increase in rainfalls is expected to happen in the midstream and downstream areas, according to the meteorological forecast by the coordination center of China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd.

As the rainfalls are estimated to be distributed unevenly, the midstream and downstream of the Yangtze River are likely to see major regional floods.

In anticipation of challenging floods this year, the coordination center of the company prepared forecast for the flood season in advance and actively coordinates with State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid in speeding up the progress of lowering the water level in the reservoir and releasing the anti-flood reservoir capacity.

It also carefully manages maintenance and repair of cascade power stations and accelerates the wrap-up of annual repairs. By compiling and amending the Rules for Implementation of Natural Disaster Pre-Warning Administration, the center further clarifies the flood preventive procedures and various contingency measures to improve the capability to mitigate the flood.
