Wudongde hydropower plant project, owned by China Three Gorges Corp (CTG), began the final sprint earlier this month to complete the dam construction as it strives to achieve the goal of putting into operation the first batch of power units in July.
Wudongde dam has completed a total of 2.6 million cubic meters of concrete placement so far, or 97 percent of the total volume. Of the 15 sections of the dam, 9 have completed placement and 6 have entered the stage of building crest outlet structure, well on track to meet the goal of completion.
All power units have entered the stage of electromechanical equipment installation. The rotors of the first batch of power units to be put into operation have all been hoisted and their final assembly and waterless commissioning are scheduled to be completed in May.
The trial operation of the first-batch units will be conducted in June before being fully operational in July. The power plant, which is expected to be connect to the grid in 2021, will have an installed capacity of 10.2 GW, generating an average of 38.91 TWh of electricity annually.
