China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) established its first public-private partnership (PPP) for projects in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the latest move as part of its efforts to protect the country's longest river.
Yangtze Ecology and Environment Co., Ltd, a CTG subsidiary, announced that it has set up Chongqing Three Gorges Integrated Water Environment Management Co., Ltd, a PPP project, on May 21 in the city.
Yangtze Ecology and Environment holds a controlling stake in the new entity, which will focus on the construction and operation of a PPP project for integrated management of Huaxi River in Ba’nan District of Chongqing.
The project includes a total investment of 3.52 billion yuan and is being constructed and managed by China Three Gorges Construction Co., Ltd, another subsidiary of CTG. The project is planned to comprise the building of sewage treatment plants, water purification stations, rainwater and sewage pipe networks, box culverts and a river dredging system, providing water replenishment for the ecosystem, flood prevention and riverbank protection.
