CTG Renewables, the new energy arm of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), said it has hoisted and installed the offshore converter station for its Rudong wind farm in Jiangsu on April 19, wrapping up the installation of two offshore converter stations for its Rudong offshore wind power project that includes wind farm H6 and H10.
It is a milestone for the Rudong offshore VSC-HVDC (Voltage Source Converter based High Voltage Direct Current Transmission) project, paving the way for its scheduled full-capacity commissioning this year.
The Rudong wind power project is located in the Huangshayang sea to the east of Jiangsu province, 50-60 km offshore and 9-22 meters underwater. Each of the project’s two wind farms, H6 and H10, has an installed capacity of 400 MW, comprising 200 wind turbines, each with an installed capacity of 4 MW.
After completion, it will generate an estimated 2.4 TWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 990,000 households. Compared with coal-fired power plants, it saves 740,000 tons of standard coal and 7.12 million cubic meters of fresh water and reduces emissions of CO2 by 1.83 million tons, delivering massive environmental benefits.
