CTG’s Basai water complex project plays significant role in flood control in Jiangxi province

The Bali Lake-Saicheng Lake Water Control Project, one of CTG’s Yangtze River protection projects, played a significant role in water control in Jiangxi province during this summer’s flooding season.

The project, also known as Basai water complex, is the largest pumping station in Jiangxi province and the largest water discharge outlet in Jiujiang city. Designed for flood control and drainage, the project has five units that provide a combined pump drainage capacity of 396,000 cubic meters per hour.

This year, persistent rainfall across the Yangtze River basin has caused the waters of many rivers and lakes in Jiujiang city to exceed their warning levels. As the water levels of Bali Lake and Saicheng Lake rose sharply and the downstream region was hindered by the high water levels of the Yangtze River, the lakes have not been able to naturally drain into the river.

The Basai water complex has a direct impact on the overall water resource management. As of July 27, the project had been operating soundly for 530 hours, promptly discharging water from the lakes into the Yangtze River and draining a total of 255 million cubic meters, which is equivalent to 18 times the size of the famous West Lake in Hangzhou. The project lowered the water levels of the lakes by about three meters, ensuring the safety of the lives and properties of 600,000 residents in urban area of Jiujiang.

In the future, CTG will continue to improve the urban water environment along the river, optimizing flood control and drainage operation and improving water security for the better urban quality of life.
