CTG starts operation for NO.2 power unit at Changlongshan power station

Changlongshan pumped storage power plant in Zhejiang Province, built and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that its No.2 power unit 2 has gone into operation on September 30, another milestone for the plant since its first power unit was put into operation in late June.

Located in Anji County, Zhejiang Province, the station is at the load center of the power grid in East China.  It is an important initiative designed to improve the operating conditions of the power grid by facilitating the smooth integration of new energy sources like wind and solar power, playing a significant role in building a low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system that mainly utilizes renewable energy.

With 6 units of 350,000-kilowatt water turbines, the station has a total installed capacity of 2.1 million kilowatts. Once fully operational, it will generate an annual output of 2.435 billion kWh.

As of September 30, the station had generated more than 200 million kWh of electricity. "With the commissioning of the No.2 unit and the No.3 unit currently undergoing waterless commissioning, the station is expected to have three power units put into operation by the end of this year, and aims to be fully operational by the end of July. We will strive to provide energy support for the high-quality economic development in the Yangtze River Delta as soon as possible, contributing to the carbon peak and carbon neutrality initiative," said Liu Guoping, general manager of Changlongshan Company.
