China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) has acquired a stake in the hydroelectric project of Talasa in Colombia from Macquarie Development Corporation, a company owned by Macquarie Capital, marking the first entry into that country’s market. The delivery of the stock acquisition agreement was made in Bogota, Colombia’s capital city, on November 19.
The project will be undertaken by a joint company owned by CTG and Energias de Portugal (EDP), marking the first co-invested project in Colombia and a good practice between the two parties in developing the third market.
Zhang Dingming, Executive Vice President of CTG said that the company is a responsible clean energy group and the investment in Talasa hydropower project shows the company’s strong confidence in Colombia. “CTG will strive to build it into a high-quality project and put it into production on schedule, bringing benefits to local people and government,” he said.
The project with a capacity of 170.9 MW will solve the problem of power shortage in the northwestern part of Colombia, promoting local economic and social development once completed.
