Three Gorges Dam area prioritizes tourism safety as visitors swell

The number of visitors to the Three Gorges Dam area surpassed 3 million in 2018 for the first time, three years after breaking the 2 million mark in 2015.

As one of the most popular destinations among domestic tourists, the Three Gorges Dam area has won numerous awards such as “National Model Unit” and “The Most Secure Scenic Spot” and CTG Tourism Corporation, a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), has delivered a strong performance in terms of both number of tourists and word-of-mouth.    

Li Zhenyong, general manager of CTG Tourism Corporation, attributed the continuous improvement of tourism operations at the Three Gorges Dam Area to the booming development of the tourism industry across the country as well as the constant upgrading of the tourist area itself.

The sustained popularity of the Three Gorges Dam area among tourists stems from the rallying power of the traditional Chinese culture and Chinese tourists’ Three Gorges Dam complex.

Three Gorges Dam area receives more than 10,000 tourists per day on average during peak season and 25,000 tourists per day during golden week holidays, with single day record of 40,000. However, the Three Gorges Dam area never simply pursues the growth number of tourists, instead, it always seeks to achieve balance between quality and safety to deliver a better touring experience to visitors.

“It is our top priority to guarantee the safety of tourists and the operation of the Three Gorges Dam,” said Li Zhenyong. The growing number of tourists and their personal experience is a testament to the safety of the project.  

“Every day, tens of thousands of tourists will be awed by the magnificent Three Gorges Dam and its daily operation. We have staff stationed at the tourist area all the time and there is no reporting of major safety problems. We hope that tourists from home and abroad can visit the Three Gorges Dam. And we believe rumors regarding the deformation of the project will then prove ungrounded,” added Li Zhenyong.
