Uganda’s parliament speaker visits Isimba hydropower station

Rebecca A. Kadaga, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, paid a visit to the Isimba hydropower station, a project being built by China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), on September 25, praising CWE’s commitment to the dam amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kadaga, accompanied by Sarah Opendi, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda, inspected the downstream traffic bridge, the central control office, dam’s spillway condition and other construction sites.

During her visit, Kadaga said she was delighted with the project’s progress, speaking highly of CWE's commitment at fulfilling contracts and completing essential tasks, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Upon completion, the 183MW Isimba power station will boost Uganda's national electricity generation capacity by 20%, significantly reducing power shortages.
