The Souapiti Hydropower Complex in Guinea, built by China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE), has put all power units into operation on March 25 local time, China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), the parent company of CWE, announced.
The power plant connected its No. 4 generator to grid after completing the 72-hour trial operation, signaling that it has commissioned all of its power units.
Dubbed "the Three Gorges Project in West Africa", the Souapiti Hydropower Complex is the largest hydropower project in Guinea or even West Africa. It has a total installed capacity of 450 MW with an annual average output of 1.899 billion kilowatt-hours.
The hydropower plant connects to Kaleta substation through the 225kV grid to supply electricity across Guinea. It can also supply electricity to surrounding countries through the West African interconnected grid, benefiting more people and powering social and economic development in the region.
