Baihetan hydropower station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), recently transplanted 40 100-year-old trees from its reservoir site to its construction area, opening up a new chapter. The youngest of the relocated trees is 110 years old while the oldest is astonishingly 200 years old.
The ex-situ conservation of old trees is an integral part of the orderly environmental protection and reservoir site clean-up efforts currently underway before the first power units of the plant is scheduled to be put into operation in July this year.
Currently, all the transplanting work has been completed. The old trees are receiving infusion and showing sound recovery.
