Unit 3 of Hongyanhe NPPpassed trial operation

On August16, 2015at 18:26, Unit 3 of Hongyanhe NPP in Liaoning Province completed 168-hour trial operation test and was available for commercial operation. Thus, the amount of units in operation or available for commercial condition reached 14 for China General Nuclear Power Group(CGN),making it the largest nuclear operator in China. Unit 3 of Hongyanhe NPP is also the third new unit put into operation and available for commercial condition since this year, tying the record of nuclear construction last year. At the same time, the number of units in operation or available for commercial operation in mainland China increased to 26.

As the first large commercial nuclear power plant in northeast of China, Hongyanhe PhaseⅡNPP is planned to build 4 gigawatt-level nuclear units while PhaseⅡto build 2 gigawatt-level units. Liao Ning Hong Yan He Nuclear Power Co.(LHNPC）, co-built by CGN, State Power Investment Corporation and Dalian Construction Investment Group, takes responsibility for the construction, operation and management of Hongyanhe NPP.

The construction for Unit 3 of Hongyanhe NPP was launched in March,2009, while the 168-hour trial operation test on finished August 16, which is one of the necessary requirements for a new unit to enter commercial operation. At the following time, LHNPC will apply relevant power generation and commercial operation licenses according to related national regulation.

Units 1, 2 of Hongyanhe NPP were put into commercial operation on June 6, 2013 and May 13, 2014 respectively, and have maintained stable operation performance. Lu Changshen, General Manager Assistant of CGN and Chairman of LHNPC said that, for Unit 1, there were six performance indicators at the year achieved international advanced level among nine major operation performance indicators, and for Unit 2, three indicators achieved international advanced level and maintained safe and stable operation. At present, the construction of Unit 4 of Hongyanhe NPP progresses smoothly in compliance with the schedule. The construction of Units 5, 6 was started respectively on March 29 and July 24 with the civil works are undergoing.

Liao Weiming, General Manager of LHNPC said that the company would further scientifically organize safe production and guarantee safe and stable operation of Unit 3 on the basis of operation experiences of Units 1,2, aims to provide safe and reliable clean power for the economic and social development of Liaoning and Dalian.

Under the background of deteriorating environment and aggravating haze weather and PM2.5, the construction of Hongyanhe NPP plays a significant role inimproving local environment. When the construction of the 6 units are all completed, the annual on-grid power will reach 45GWh, approximately 1.5 times the amount of electricity consumption in Dalian in 2014.Compared with the same scale coal-fired power plant, the 6 units of Hongyanhe NPP per year can reduce consumption of standard coal by about 15 million tons, and reduce CO2 emission by 36 million tons,equivalent to afforestation of 99,000 hectares, corresponding to21% of the forest area of Dalian.

In addition, the construction of Hongyanhe NPP has further improved nuclear power self-reliance and localization level. The localization rate of PhaseⅠproject of Hongyanhe NPP has achieved 80% , among which, the reactor vessels, steam generators and other main equipment in nuclear island have also reached localization targets.
