Yangjiang-2 completes commissioning work, moves toward commercial operation

Unit 2 of Yangjiang NPP had completed all commissioning work on June 5 and was qualified for commercial operation, and on-grid electricity statistics was started, CGN Power Co. (stock code: 1816.HK) said in a statement in the evening of June 7, 2015. However, the unit still must go through final approval process, including applying an electric power business license and other documents before it can begin commercial operation. Normally, the time when relevant procedures are completed will be identified as commercial operation time.

Unit 2 of Yangjiang NPP was launched to construct in June, 2009. After completion of some major milestones, including civil engineering, equipment installation, system commissioning, fuel loading, unit criticality, steam turbine running, first grid connection and minor overhaul, the unit finally satisfied the conditions for commercial operation. At present, the construction of units 1,2 of Yangjiang NPP was completed, and the safety and quality of the other 4 units is in good condition; engineering construction, transfer to production, industrial safety are generally stable, and relevant indicators are under control.

Since Unit 1 of Yangjiang NPP was put into operation on March 25, 2014, it has achieved good safety performance and economic benefits for the first fuel cycle and realized zero unplanned shutdown and zero operational event. There were 8 indicators achieved top 1/4 advanced level in the 9 WANO indicators compared, among which, 6 indicators including Unit Capability Factor (UCF), 7,000 Hours Critical (UA7), Safety System Performance, Fuel Reliability (FRI), Collective Radiation Exposure (CRE), Industrial Safety Accident Rate (ISA2) even entered top 1/10 excellent level.

In March this year, Unit 2 of Yangjiang NPP, Unit 3 of Ningde NPP and Unit 3 of Hongyanhe NPP under CGN Power were synchronized successively with generation capability. It is reported that this year there will be 4 units in commercial operation, plus Unit 1 of Fangchenggang NPP under entrusted management, 5 units will be put into commercial operation, and would create a new record for batch commercial operation of domestic nuclear power.
