CGN’s seven bases launched first nuclear power science courses

     By September 12, 2014, all the seven nuclear power bases of CGN in Hongyanhe Yangjiang, Ningde, Taishan, Lufeng, Fangchenggang etc. have launched the 2014 nuclear power science activities on campus. The nearby schools of Daya Bay nuclear power base will also implement the “first nuclear power science courses” programs soon. According to statistics, there will be more than 8000 students in the vicinity of CGN’s seven nuclear power bases to receive nuclear power science courses in 2014.

    In March 2013, the nuclear power science textbook prepared by CGN Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Company was included for the first time into the formal teaching programs of Honghe Middle School and Liaohe Hope Primary School in Wafangdian City. The course was set for one semester and one class every week. In September 2013, Hongyanhe Nuclear Power cooperated with Wafangdian Municipal Education Administration to practice this approach in all 31 secondary schools in the city, of which all 6800 students of the first grade received 10 class hours of nuclear power science education. On September 1, 2014, the first day of a new semester, the first nuclear power science course for the schools surrounding Hongyanhe NPP of Liaoning Province was opened in Wafangdian City. The nuclear power science course of this year is still to cover the nearly 7000 students of the grade one of all 31 junior schools, who will receive 10 class hours of nuclear power science lessons during the Fall semester of 2014.

    In the afternoon of September 3, 2014, the first nuclear power science course for the schools surrounding Yangjiang NPP of Guangdong Province was opened for the students of the first grade of Dongping secondary school. The first session of nuclear power science course designs 13 class hours, which are in the charge of employees from CGN Yangjiang Nuclear Power and teachers from Dongping secondary school. According to the schedule, Yangjiang Nuclear Power will arrange a nuclear power science knowledge contest following the course and organize the students performing excellent in the contest to join the winter camp activities to be held at Daya Bay base.

    In the afternoon of the same day, the first nuclear power science course for the schools surrounding Ningde NPP of Fujian Province was launched for the students of the second grade of No.17 secondary school in Fuding City. To have the students easily understand the profound nuclear power knowledge, the volunteers from Ningde Nuclear Power took every effort to interpret from the easy to the complicated by comparing nuclear island with the egg shell for protection.

    On September 5, 2014, the first nuclear power science course for the schools surrounding Taishan NPP of Guangdong Province was opened for the students of the second grade of central secondary school in Chixi Town of Taishan City. The volunteers from Taishan Nuclear Power showed 83 students the knowledge related to clean energy via models, bringing them a lively and interesting tutorial lesson.

    In the afternoon of September 11, 2014, the first nuclear power science course for the schools surrounding Lufeng NPP of Guangdong Province was comprehensively launched, and the over 600 students from all the three secondary schools in Lufeng will receive nuclear power science education.

    In the afternoon of September 12, 2014, the first nuclear power science course for the schools surrounding Fangchenggang NPP of Guangxi Province was formally launched.

    "The more we learn, the more we understand objectively. We hope to enable the public to have more rational, more scientific knowledge of nuclear power through nuclear power science activities on campus, and so on." Hu Guangyao, a CGN news spokesman said, CGN will sum up experience based upon these practices to expand the activities on nuclear power science education on campus.
