The world's first non-supplementary fired compressed air energy storage power station has been officially put into operation in Jiangsu Province

On May 26th, the world's first non-supplementary fired compressed air energy storage power station—Jiangsu Jintan Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage Project—has been officially put into operation in Changzhou city, Jiangsu Province.

The project uses the underground salt cave resources in Jintan, Jiangsu Province, and takes compressed air as the main medium to realize energy storage and conversion. No pollution and zero emissions will be produced in the whole process, with power conversion efficiency of over 60%. After being put into operation, it can provide 60MW peak shaving capacity for the local power grid, 300MWh of electricity can be stored in one energy storage cycle, and about 100GWh of peak shaving electricity can be increased every year. The long-term planning of the project is 1,000MW, which will build a large-scale clean physical energy storage base in China.

The project is jointly developed by China Huaneng, China Salt Group and Tsinghua University. Jiangsu Branch of China Huaneng Group is responsible for the construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the project. Its commissioning marks the qualitative leap of China's compressed air energy storage technology from theoretical experiment to engineering application, and provides a new energy storage scheme for the construction of a new power system with new energy as the main body. It is also a milestone in the development of China's new energy storage technology.
