Guides for Corporate ESG Disclosure Co-formulated by China Energy and Others Enacted

On June 1, an industry standard titled Guides for Corporate ESG Disclosure (T/CERDS 2-2022), jointly formulated by China Energy, China Shenhua and other organizations under the leadership of China Enterprise Reform and Development Society, was officially enacted. The standard sets up a four-tiered index system with 118 specific indexes on corporate information disclosure in the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions. This is China’s first corporate ESG disclosure guidebook. It fully meets the demand of enterprises for ESG development and sustainable development through effectively adapting to China’s realities, filling the domestic gap in ESG disclosure standards.

The Guides for Corporate ESG Disclosure highlights the role of enterprises as an important contributor to Chinese society as well as their responsibilities and missions in realizing national development goals, and demonstrates a distinctive Chinese feature. It provides not only guidelines for corporate self-assessment but also references for third-party evaluation. The standard is expected to enhance the standardization and effectiveness of corporate ESG information disclosure and boost enterprises’ sustainable, high-quality development.

In recent years, with “shouldering the responsibility to empower the country’s energy industry” as its mission, China Energy has established the CE·CE CSR System and actively advanced ESG exploration and participated in the formulation of CSR standards and systems. In 2021, the corporation was nominated as one of the Top 10 ESG Models for Centrally Administered State-owned Enterprises (SOEs), and its subsidiaries China Shenhua and Longyuan Power were included in the Centrally Administered SOEs ESG Top 50 Index. In addition, China Shenhua’s ESG management information system was included in the ESG Bluebook of Listed Centrally Administered SOEs (2021) as a best practice case, setting a good example for enterprises in the energy industry.
