China Energy’s Underground Reservoir Dam Construction Method Wins 23rd China Patent Award

On July 26, China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) issued the Decision on the Awarding of the 23rd China Patent Award. The patent “A kind of underground reservoir dam and its construction method” co-invented by Shendong Coal and the National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy, with China Energy as the primary owner, won the China Patent Gold Award.

Aimed at addressing the structural design and construction difficulties of artificial dams of underground reservoirs in coal mines, the patent puts forward for the first time the artificial dam design and construction concept of “active impermeability and system safety.” It established an optimized mechanical model of artificial dam base structure parameters, developed an assembled wedge-shaped artificial dam structure and its construction technology, improves dam structural safety, and enjoys significant advantages of high impermeability, high construction efficiency, high safety, and low construction and operation costs.

The China Patent Gold Award is an international award jointly organized by the CNIPA and the World Intellectual Property Organization. The evaluation criteria not only emphasize the technical and innovation level of the project, but also pay attention to its application, protection and management in the process of bringing the technology from lab to market.
