Baoshen Railway Group’s First Hybrid Locomotive Launched

Baoshen Railway Group under China Energy put into use its first HXN6 hybrid locomotive on July 18.

HXN6 locomotive is a homegrown high-power hybrid locomotive powered by a large-capacity battery unit combined with a diesel engine and featuring AC drive system with an intermediate DC link. It can be driven by the power battery unit or the diesel generator set alone, or by both together in accordance with different loads and varying working conditions. Compared with internal combustion locomotives, this new type saves 30 percent on fuel and reduces diesel engine noise by 85 percent, which is in line with the trend of energy saving and eco-friendly development. It can effectively solve the problems of high energy consumption and high pollutant emissions of internal combustion locomotives.

Designed with an outer corridor and a low load-bearing structure, the locomotive consists of a cooling room, a power room, a brake resistance room, a power battery room, an electrical room, the driver's cabin, and a rear engine room. It has a maximum power of 2200 kW, a maximum braking rate of 1200 kW, a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and a maximum tractive force of 560 kN.
