Huanghua Port Honored with China Environment Award

Winners and results of the 11th China Environment Award were announced on June 16, and Huanghua Port under China Energy took home the “China Environmental Excellence Award,” becoming the country’s first port enterprise to win the award.

In recent years, Huanghua Port has been attaching great importance to environmental management. It has actively managed coal dust and independently developed a long-term dust control system, an intelligent water supply system for the yard, and belt machine washing device, in a bid to control the coal dust from the source. It has built an ecological water system featuring two lakes and three wetlands, while collecting and storing ships’ ballast water, coal sewage, and rainwater, with an aim to achieve zero discharge of coal sewage into the sea. By implementing the saline-alkali land drainage transformation project, Huanghua Port has planted nearly 100 varieties of indigenous plants that are salt and alkaline resistant, pollution resistant, wind resistant and easy to grow, covering 32 percent of the port area. It has also actively promoted on-shore power supply, using nearly 2 million kilowatt hours of shore power every year to ensure power supply for all ships docked at berth, ranking at the forefront of its counterparts.

China Environment Award is the highest civil award in the environmental sector of China. Themed on “Harmonious Coexistence Between Man and Nature,” this edition aims to commend and reward organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions in five areas: urban environment, environment management, corporate environmental protection, ecological protection, and environmental education. As one of the 22 award-winning organizations, Huanghua Port is distinguished for its fruitful achievements in “building a green port and sharing the blue sea and blue sky.”
